Aflatoxin EU Pist 2

Aflatoxin is a secondary metabolite of the molds Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. These compunds are carcinogenic and can cause severe illness in humans and animals. Levels are regulated worldwide and the acceptable limits can vary between countries. The PEC (pre-export certification) program is administered by the Almond Board of California and USDA. It enables almond shipments to enter the EU with a reduced level of surveillance testing.
